April Newsletter

April 14, 2019 by Amanda Snapp in Uncategorized

Greetings Fraternal Brothers and Sisters,

Here are a few things that we discussed at our March and April meetings:

Upcoming Event

Cops and Bobbers

MAY 11 0800-1400

Tracey’s Camp

2031 Crooked Pine Trl, Pinewood, SC 29125

The biggest current topic for Lodge 31 is the upcoming Cops and Bobbers event. As you are probably aware, every year we take 20-25 kids from Crosswell and Turbeville children’s homes out to Tracey’s Camp in Pinewood. We spend the morning and early afternoon with them out on the lake, we teach them how to fish and everyone enjoys the time off the grid for a few hours. We provide lunch for all of the participants and KFC is generous in donating boxed chicken dinners. The year we have a fun new addition to our entertainment line up!

Kona Ice has offered to come out to give everyone cups of their yummy shaved ice. They will be at the lake at 1230.

We need your help to make this event go even better than it has in years past. Please think about lending a few hours to your lodge and come out and fish with some kids. Please let us know if you can help.

Membership

We have gained a few new members over the past couple of months, we welcome: Mark Taylor, Myra Strong, Eric Korotki, Robert Barfield and Sam Beckenbaugh, along with associate members: Kelly Hynes, John Garcia, and Bobby Touchberry.

We currently have 55 active members and 5 associate members.

Scholarship

Lodge 31 is beginning the Helping Hand Scholarship program in 2019.

Purpose of Scholarship:

To provide financial aid to students studying in the field of First Responder (Law Enforcement, Corrections, Fire, EMS or Medical Field etc.)
Provide financial aid to students who attend school from Crosswell Children’s Home, Turbeville Children’s Home and Adult Education.
Showing Appreciation

We presented plaques to several of our major contributers as a way of showing our appreciation for their generosity. Those who recieved plaques were:

Tracey’s Camp for providing the venue for Cops and Bobbers

Perfection Bakery for providing breakfast during Cops and Bobbers

KFC for providing lunch during Cops and Bobbers

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 1st at 1900 at the Restaurant at Second Mill in Sumter.
